...Gigapede (mission 4) | |
A relatively harmless mini boss so long as you follow some basic ground rules. First ground rule: STAY OFF THE GROUND!! It will be virtually swimming with electricity that could be easily avoided by keeping to the numerous ledges across the hallway. For the longest time, the only way I dealt with the Gigapede was by standing on the first ledge that runs perpendicular to the door and pumping the oversized bug full of lead any time it passed by, often jumping for prolonged aim. But this very tedious, and doesn't get you anywhere at higher difficulties. Second ground rule: get on TOP of the Gigapede! Hitting the bug directly with close combat weapons is the only way to cause worthwhile damage. There will be times when it will break its |
pattern of floating across the ground and circle up to where you're standing. Carefully jump on top of it, Devil Trigger, and slash away at its spine. The Gigapede will often defend itself by twirling its body to shake you off to the ground. When that happens, get back to a ledge as soon as possible or be prepared to dodge a flurry of lightning attacks. It is helpful to hold the aiming button (L2) while the Gigapede is out of sight, because it will help you know which direction it's coming from. Third ground rule: go for the HEAD! The farther down the spine you hit the Gigapede, the less damage it will take, so attacking the head and neck area is ideal. The best way I've found to do this is to park yourself on the high ledge overhanging the hallway near its usual exit valve, and leap down as the bug passes below you. Ride it as far as you can, and make sure to get back to safety if it manages to throw you off. Ball Lightning: The sides of the Gigapede glow violet and it releases a barrage of moderately aimed balls of electricity at Dante. If you're standing on a ledge, the projectiles will often come at angle that make them hit rock and dissipate before reaching you. Still, if you're in the air or see them coming right at you, get out of the way. Electric Bands: The Gigapede rends bands of electricity crawling along the ground. Avoided if you stay off the ground... or jump around like mad. Electric
Twirl: The Gigapede's body crackles with electricity and it twirls
over, throwing you off if you happen to be on top of it.
