...Hell Vanguard (mission 2)
That big Grim Reaper thing slicing away at you with its scintillating scythe is your first clue that you need to pay attention or get slaughtered. Believe it or not, this is only a mini boss, and appears as a regular monster later in the game. Though it may seem daunting at first, it is a slow creature, and once you get a feel for its patterns it becomes child's play. It blocks all head-on attacks. The best you can manage is to clang blades with it up to three times (which raises the combo meter) and then get out of the way or it cuts you. My advice would be to stick around in front of it until it rears up to take a swing at you, and then either roll to the side or jump behind it to slash it while it is recovering.
Whirlpool Teleport: This is the Hell Vanguard's
most dangerous attack. You will hear a bell sound as
the Vanguard disappears and reappears a split second
later, hurtling at you from a distortion ripple rimmed
with dark miasma. It has flawless aim, but if your
reflexes are quick enough, you can dash/roll/jump out
of its path. The Vanguard charges either horizontally
(vortex appears perpendicular to the ground) or
vertically (vortex appears parallel to the ground), so
pay attention and react accordingly. Annoying enough
as it is with a single Vanguard, it becomes neigh
impossible to avoid as their numbers per room grow.
Take comfort in the fact that if you do evade this
attack, the Vanguard will reappear idly twirling it
scythe and very vulnerable. DISCLAIMER: All artwork, characters, stories, music, video, and books are Copyright CAPCOM and ATLUS. They are NOT of my making. No copyright infringement is intended. |
