Kaneda is the Icarus II's Captain and commands the outmost
respect of all the crew. He is calm, fair, far-sighted, and
great at resolving conflict between team members. Beneath
his collected exterior, he is deeply troubled by the fate of
Icarus I and the success of the mission. He has a healthy
reverence for the Sun and has been known to spend time in
the Observation Room. He is skilled at keeping everything in
perspective, including the value of his own life. He has made
peace with death and doesn't hesitate to sacrifice himself
for the good of the crew and the mission.
