Searle is the Psych Officer on the Icarus II, but he spends
most of his time meditating in the Observation Room. It started
out as a psychological experiment, but he soon found himself
helplessly caught in the Sun's hypnotic gaze. Although he would
never admit it, this star worship was turning him into a mystic.
He never felt alone in the Sun's presence, and knew a great sense
of peace when bathed in its light. This habit made him develop a
really vicious sunburn, but he has long since stopped caring. He
seemed almost jealous after Kaneda was engulfed in the Sun's flames
and secretly longs to see the star's full glory with his own eyes. He was
the first to understand the concept "we are stardust."
