Welcome
to the Fun Stuff section! Here you will
find information about and (my) reviews of Anime, Movies,
TV shows, Books,
Games, and Music. There will also be sections called "Movie
Watch" (or "Book Watch" or "Game Watch,"
you get the idea) with countdowns to stuff I'm looking forward to.
When you're done looking at those, feel free to look at some of the
music videos I made on the Videos
page! Or you can visit the Shrines
section, where I list off the pages I made dedicated to characters,
actors, or series that are important to me.
Best
of the Best All-Stars
Characters
from anime, manga, games, and books organized IN THE ORDER
THAT I ENCOUNTERED THEM, not in the order that I like them.
Series:Slayers Age: 21 years old
Height: 5'8"
Race: 1/3 Human, 1/3 Demon, 1/3 Golem
Eyes: Black
Hair: Turquoise
Dateable? If I could get him to open up, sure
Why He's On Here: Zelgadis has a very special place in
my heart. I greatly admire his cool, level-headed logic, his
maturity, and
his skill. Plus he's my favorite colors! ^_^ There is much
to be said about his rivalry with Xelloss, as many who
focused on Zelgadis were lured away by the cunning priest's
wiles in the second season of Slayers.
But I am fiercely loyal to my chosen focuses, and when given
the choice between an angsty loner and a mysterious
trickster, I will typically go for the former. Zelgadis was the first character I ever truly obsessed
over, inspiring much artwork and a whole website back in the
day. Without that experience in HTML this website would
likely not exist. I consider him to be a lot like myself,
and this closeness prompted me to roleplay as him in Yahoo!
anime chat for some of the most interesting years of my
life. Through him I learned how to type. Because of him I
had my first internet-based relationship (even if it was
with a girl who thought I was a guy). Yes, I can honestly
say that my life would be a lot different today had I not
discovered Zelgadis. He is like second nature to me.
Series:Berserk Age: 17~20 years old Race: Human/Angel/Demon Eyes: Blue Hair: White Dateable? Maybe if your name is Guts, and only if
you never abandon him Why He's On Here: Griffith is very easy to hate, so
it can get very complicated to explain why I love him so
much. There are few characters with whom I identify as
strongly as I do with Griffith. He is both my ego and my darkest
potential, both of which I value greatly. I consider him a very
important teacher... in that, given the same circumstances,
I hope I would have the presence of mind to choose a
different path... or should I? That is the question. I loved
him even back when I thought he was insane in that critical
moment, but it was the acknowledgement that he made a
conscious, rational choice that immortalized him in my mind.
His ideals about destiny, dreams, and equality are very close
to mine. Like him, I will not betray myself for anything or
anyone, and if my sense of self is threatened, I would need to
step back and analyze why. I greatly admire Griffith's purity
of will to follow his dream to hell and back. I too have
dreams that I would risk anything for. They may be outwardly
noble, like "helping the planet," but how many hearts would I
be willing to trample on to achieve them? At what point do the
ends not justify the means? And yet, by doing what he did,
Griffith was acting in harmony with the cosmic plan. He was
the manifestation of the humanity's deepest desire and has now
become a transcendent force of nature, wise to the true nature
of the world. This is another ideal that I seek.
Series:Devil
May Cry series Age: 20's? Race: Half-demon Eyes: Blue Hair: White
Dateable? As friends with benefits
Why He's On Here: My obsession with Dante sometimes
frightens me. Other obsessions might go in intense bursts
that fizzle out... I may easily be able to get back into
them, but they nevertheless fizzle out. Dante has been
steady for several years now and is only getting stronger. I
can't explain it. I can't explain why I practically vowed to
marry someone who has perfect control over him, and I
certainly can't explain what would possess me to plan a
costume around kissing
a random guy dressed as him 2 weeks in advance. I never
got frustrated with the Devil May Cry games because I knew
that no matter what happened, I still got to watch Dante
jump around onscreen. Watching DMC gameplay is hypnotic
bliss to me. The way he moves is sheer poetry in motion! On
the one hand it is pure unbridled lust, on the other hand I read into him a lot deeper than most people,
probably a lot more than is even there. In the end, all that
matters is what he means to me. Him and his twin
brother Vergil represent vital primal archetypes that I work
with closely. Dante is special
because, as explained by my short
fanfic, he is a key to my immortality. He is the only
external character I actually want to create once I get off
this planet.
Series:Pandora
Hearts Age: 40~45, but looks 24 Height: 5'10" Race: Human
Eye(s): Red
Hair: White with purple sheen Dateable? He has other priorities Why He's On Here: Break has been to the heart of the
Abyss and looked into its soul. He has experienced things
that would drive lesser men to madness yet he survived with
his personality intact. Alone. Always alone. Ever since his
life fell apart and he was promised that this past can be
changed. Break is very similar to Griffith in his
willingness to do anything, right down to sacrificing over
100 innocent people, to attain his heart's desire. The big
difference being that while Griffith's wish gave him
everything he ever wanted, Break's wish backfired, and this
forced him to reevaluate what he stands for. He carries an
enormous amount of guilt for the original wrong and how he
made it worse. Break is the flip side to Griffith; the fork
in the road that leads to interpersonal harmony. Although he still attaches his sense of
identity to a goal, openly and proudly declaring others his
pawns to use and discard without remorse, his resolve has
softened considerably. Others have grown to care for him
and, much as he tried to deny it, he has grown to care for
others. His mask of nonchalance is becoming progressively
harder to maintain when his friends are in danger, and he
has even been known to sabotage his mission for their sake.
As his life ticks away, his body deteriorates, and he
becomes less able to freely wield the power of his Mad
Hatter chain, Break has learned that trust is not a weakness
and it's okay to ask for the help of others.
Series:
Dorohedoro Age: Early 20's? Race: Sorcerer
Eyes: Faceted moth eyes
Hair: Black Dateable? Perfect Why He's On Here: In a world with no laws and
unrestrained brutality, where life is cheap and the streets
are a playground for psychopaths, Dokuga shines with
reasonableness and compassion. Despite being trampled upon
by society, relegated as trash, and left for dead, Dokuga
remains genuinely sweet, caring, and kind at heart. His
gentle nature has not been desensitized by the violence
around him, and he has not lost his sense of remorse for the
blood he is forced to shed. And he has killed many. Because,
painful as it is, he is a creature of his world and has to
work within its parameters. Through his sincere desire to
fight for a better, fairer world, and his faith that his
Boss could achieve this, Dokuga had been led to commit
unspeakable atrocities. He constantly pushes himself beyond
the limits of his strength and his sanity, masking his
deepening depression with the hope that his efforts will pay
off in the end. But his is a cautionary tale of a road to
Hell paved with good intentions. Dokuga exemplifies how too
much caring can make one increasingly tolerant of escalating
the means by which to achieve one's goals, blurring the line
between activism and terrorism. He also demonstrates how the
most sensitive people often try to do much more than their
share to alleviate the harshness of the world, ignoring
their own wellbeing for the sake of the greater good, and
consequently teetering on the brink of burnout and collapse.
Likewise, Dokuga's predicament warns against the desire to
project our own hopes onto ambiguous situations, and
pledging loyalty to mysterious, enigmatic figures with
questionable motives.

Pairings List From
anime, manga, games, and books. I typically like a pairing
for one of 3 reasons: how much they care about each other,
how much tragedy they have endured, and how much
sadism/masochism there is. Simple enough? Good.

Leo was a
very reserved kid who preferred the company of books instead of
people. Elliot found him in an orphanage, and while Leo initially
spurned his friendly advances, in time he gave in and grew very
close to Elliot. Truly, Elliot was the only spark of light and hope
in Leo's world, and so he cherished their relationship above all
else. They even wrote musical compositions for each other. Yet,
underneath all this, Leo kept secrets from Elliot. Leo didn't tell
him that Elliot was living on borrowed time, or that Elliot was
responsible for the deaths of family members he swore to avenge, nor
did he tell Elliot that this was all unwittingly Leo's fault. In
order to protect Elliot's happiness at all costs, Leo let him live
in a forgetful haze, but such a facade couldn't go on forever. When
the truth came crashing down, it wasn't pretty.

It's amazing
that in a series as macho as Berserk, you can find something as
silly as a homoerotic
waterfight! Griffith was a little boy with a big dream. He had
the charm, the intelligence, and the drive to get anything he
wanted. Yet when Griffith decided he wanted Guts in his army, Guts
refused. It was love at first fight! Over time, Guts came to see
Griffith as his best friend and mentor, but Griffith saw in Guts...
something more. He constantly lost his cool whenever Guts was in
trouble, and treated him differently from his other soldiers. One
day Guts decided he wanted to leave on a quest to find his own
reason for living, and this sent Griffith on a downward spiral of
insanity, jealousy, and self-destruction that eventually led to Hell
on earth. Oops!
Having
amnesia and a severe case of split personality disorder makes "Ai" (cAIman,
AIkawa, kAI, etc.) quite the whore. His most promising relationship
is probably with Nikaido, with whom he has a very sweet and caring
friendship, and they've made promises to stay together no matter
what happens. Of course, this was before either of them knew that
"Ai" was a murderous maniac. This brings us to "Ai"s bromance with
his best friend and partner, Risu, who lost his head in a most
un-romantic way. Little does Risu know that the person he loves and
hates the most is essentially the same man. Dokuga, however, is
infatuated with the homicidal "Ai," and can recognize him no matter
what face or personality he wears. He remained fiercely loyal to
"Ai" despite the latter disappearing for years. Meanwhile, Tetsujo
is obsessed with Dokuga and never leaves his side.
Wherever you
find Kurama you'll find Hiei, and vice versa. They're the most
famous ambiguously gay duo in anime and they complement each
other perfectly. Hiei is cold and aloof, Kurama is warm and
friendly. Hiei is very protective of Kurama, and Kurama tends to
Hiei's wounds when he's hurt. Kurama is Hiei's only friend, the only
one he respects, the only one who can make him laugh, and the one
who managed to rescue him from a hollow, suicidal existence. They
fight together, depend on each other, and trust each other
completely. I love, loove, looove everything about this couple!
What
mesmerizing eye candy the half-demon Sons of the Legendary Dark
Knight Sparda are! One dresses in blue, the other in red; one has
his hair slicked back, the other has it down; one uses a stylish
katana, the other uses anything he can get his hands on. They endlessly fight
over who gets to wield their daddy's power, but deep down they still
care for one another. Trying to reinterpret their sibling rivalry
might be incestuous, but that's fine by me so long as no offspring
are involved. I mean, come on, who hasn't swooned over that
"how about a kiss from your little brother" line in Devil
May Cry 3?
Reim is
rather uptight by nature and Break loves teasing the crap out of
him. Still, underneath the superficial banter, there is genuine
emotional depth. Reim was the first to try befriending Break when
the latter was still violently antisocial, and eventually succeeded.
Indeed, Reim is the only person Break ever called a friend. He
listens to Reim's advice and values his opinions. He feels safe
talking openly with Reim and sharing his true self. When Break
became blind, he entrusted Reim to organize his tasks so as to keep
it a secret from others. Reim is also one of only two people who
Break was willing to place above his own life purpose. And, perhaps,
Reim was the only one to make Break cry for fear of losing him.
Likewise, Reim worries about Break and protects him to the best of
his ability.

You know the
age-old story: boy meets girl, girl heals boy, boy stabs girl with
the pointy end of his hammer and runs away. He was a very shy boy.
>_>;; Their relationship later blossomed into a beautiful friendship
founded, in part, on a mutual love for violence. Nothing pleased
them more than the warm spray of blood on their faces, the hapless
victims' screams drowned out in a roar of maniacal laughter as Shin
and Noi tore, cleaved, and blasted through their opponents. Shin's
destructive magic combined with Noi's healing abilities to create a
nearly invincible team. Of course, there was an intensity of genuine
caring between them, as well, as evidenced both in the cuteness of
their everyday interactions, and the ferocity with which they
protected each other in battle.

The bond
between Frodo and Sam is undoubtedly among the strongest in all of
fantasy literature. It is a bond of friendship and loyalty, but it
is hard to write off the intimate moments and body language they
shared in the books as purely platonic. Indeed, who could argue with
Tolkien's own description of Sam saving Frodo from Shelob the
spider? "No onslaught more fierce was ever seen in the savage
world of beasts, where some desperate small creature armed with
little teeth, alone, will spring upon a tower of horn and hide that
stands above its fallen mate." Even though Sam ended up
marrying Rosie, he remained painfully torn between her and Frodo,
and one of the reasons Frodo left with the elves was to give him
peace of mind.

Beach Boys
Lets face it,
Jarlaxle heads
a band of male Amazons, dresses like a pimp, speaks with eloquent wit, and is peculiarly
fixated on Artemis Entreri. Artemis is the closest Jarlaxle has to a
friend and the only thing in the world he appears to care about
besides himself. He has saved Artemis on numerous occasions, and
even helped the assassin break his maddening obsession with Drizzt
(presumably hoping Artemis' attention would then turn to him). It is
true that Jarlaxle seeks to use him for personal gain, but he also
realizes that Artemis is the one person he can not control. Their
sharp-tongued banter is a neverending source of amusement for me.
After being
unsatisfied with countless beautiful young women, who ever thought
the one thing the troubled Sultan Shahryar needed was... another
man! Sehara can tell that, deep down inside, Shahryar is a good
person, and makes it his objective to heal Shahryar's tortured soul
through his own brand of therapeutic storytelling. By strategically
choosing his stories, Sehara helps to unravel mystery behind
Shahryar's madness and guide him back to sanity. It is truly
rewarding to watch their relationship grow from homicidal distrust
to utter devotion.
